•CHOICE OF WORDS:Чувство раздражения может быть передано рядом слов и словосочетаний, которые в отличие от нейтрального глагола to irritate указывают на силу и степень раздражения, его характер и возможный источник или причину, вызывающую такую эмоцию. К наиболее часто используемым относятся глаголы to vex, to exasperate, to nettle, to gall, to bug, to provoke и словосочетания to tick/to hack smb off, to get smb going, to get going. Последние три сочетания используются обычно в неофициальной, разговорной речи. Глаголы to exasperate, to gall, to vex и to nettle передают сильное раздражение, часто связанное с обидой, гневом, досадой. Глагол to exasperate имеет значение "сильно раздражать, выводить из себя, сердить": her jealousy exasperated him ee ревность выводила его из себя; he was exasperated by her refusal to admit that she was unjust он сердился на нее за то, что она не хотела признавать, что была несправедлива к нему. Глагол to gall имеет значение "злить, вызывать сильное раздражение, задевать": it galled him when his stepson reminded him that he was not his father and he didn't have to obey him его злило/задевало, когда его пасынок напоминал ему, что он ему не отец, и он не обязан его слушаться. Глагол to nettle имеет значение "раздражать, уязвлять, задевать за живое, выводить из себя": ridiculed nettles him их насмешки задевали его за живое. Глагол to vex имеет значение "досаждать, досадовать, злиться, дразнить": don't be vexed with me не сердись на меня; don't vex the dog не дразни собаку; he was vexed with himself for not going to the concert он сердился сам на себя, что не пошел на концерт. Глагол to bug имеет значение "надоедать, раздражать, привязываться": I just can't remember her name and it is bugging me мне не дает покоя то, что я никак не могу вспомнить, как ее зовут; Look! You are bugging! Отстань от меня; his words were bugging her ee раздражало то, что она никак не могла забыть/выбросить из головы его слова. Глагол to provoke имеет значение "вызывать раздражение, провоцировать, выводить из себя": he tried to be patient with the child, but his tricks provoked him он пытался быть терпеливым с ребенком, но фокусы последнего выводили его из терпения. Словосочетание to get going имеет значение "раздражаться, взвиваться, заводиться": she gets going at the mere mention of his name — она заводится при одном упоминании его имени. Словосочетания to get smb going и to tick smb off имеют значения "раздражать, злить, выводить из себя": it ticks him off every time they cancel a meeting without warning him он взвивается каждый раз, когда они, не предепредив его, отменяют собрание; his comments about women drivers got her going and she began to argue его замечания о женщинах за рулем тут же задели ее, и она начала спорить -
